Join Us in Promoting Peace Through Meaningful Youth Engagement in Sports in South Sudan and Uganda

In regions impacted by conflict and displacement, the power of sport extends far beyond the field. It becomes a vehicle for healing, unity, and peace. Youth, particularly those affected by violence and forced displacement, often lack safe spaces to engage, develop their talents, and experience the simple joy of play. Yet, sport can offer more than just entertainment—it can catalyse transformation, rebuild communities, and pave the way for lasting peace.

Why Sports Matter in Conflict Zones

South Sudan has faced significant challenges in recent years. Conflicts, displacement, and insecurity have shattered communities, leaving many young people without access to basic needs and opportunities for personal development. But amidst the hardship, sports can serve as a unifying force—providing youth a chance to engage constructively, forge relationships, and envision a future beyond conflict.

YSAT has been at the forefront of using sport as a tool for positive change. Through community-focused programs, we aim to engage young people in meaningful activities that foster peace, reconciliation, and social cohesion. Since 2017, YSAT has been actively working with displaced and conflict-affected youth, offering them the opportunity to participate in sports, develop their skills, and work toge

her toward common goals.

What We Need to Keep the Program Alive

As part of the ongoing efforts to expand this vital initiative, YSAT has launched a campaign to raise funds and collect sports materials. From jerseys and boots to balls, nets, and first aid kits, these items are essential for organizing sports events and providing young people with the necessary tools to participate. But the impact of these donations goes far beyond the equipment—they help to create safe spaces for youth to gather, away from the dangers of violence and insecurity.

We need your help to reach more young people in hard-to-reach areas, including refugee settlements across South Sudan and Uganda. These are the communities where the need for healing and positive engagement is greatest. Your contribution, whether in kind or cash, will ensure that displaced youth get access to the resources they need to experience the transformative power of sports.

How Sports Foster Peace and Reconciliation

Through the power of sport, YSAT is creating opportunities for young people to come together, regardless of their background or the conflict that may have divided them. In recent years, YSAT has organized #SportforPeace events in key locations such as Magwi, Ayod, and Pibor, drawing together boys and girls from different communities and encouraging them to play and compete in a safe and supportive environment. These events are not just about winning—they are about fostering understanding, promoting cooperation, and building trust.

Sport also allows youth to develop leadership and teamwork skills, helping them grow into positive role models in their communities. The support of organizations like Dan Church Aid and DANIDA has been instrumental in expanding these efforts, enabling YSAT to reach more youth across the country and strengthen its impact.

Your Contribution Can Make a Difference

Whether it’s a monetary donation or providing sports equipment, every contribution matters. By donating to YSAT, you are not only helping to provide essential sports materials but also making a powerful statement that you believe in the capacity of youth to bring about positive change in their communities.

Your support will help:

  • Provide access to sports equipment and facilities in areas that have been severely affected by conflict.
  • Create safe spaces for young people to engage in constructive and positive activities.
  • Foster peace, reconciliation, and social cohesion in communities that have experienced violence and displacement.

Together, we can create a future where young people are empowered, conflict is reduced, and communities thrive in peace.

Join Us in Making a Difference

Since 2017, YSAT has made significant strides in using sport for peacebuilding, but there is still so much work to be done. We have received requests for support from numerous youth sports platforms and associations across South Sudan, many of which are located in the hardest-hit regions of the country, including Greater Upper Nile, Greater Equatoria, and Greater Bahr El Ghazal.

Your donation can help scale up these efforts, ensuring that even more young people in vulnerable situations have access to the life-changing power of sport. Together, we can make a tangible difference in the lives of displaced and conflict-affected youth.

Donate today and be part of something bigger than sport—be part of the movement for lasting peace in South Sudan.
